The Ninth House: Worldly Wisdom

The ninth house encourages unifying all you have learned. Often called the house of holistic thinking, the ninth house synthesizes your life experience into beliefs that become the guiding principles you look to—your cosmology.

The ninth house is the natural step beyond the intensity of the eighth house, just as Sagittarius is the next step beyond Scorpio. In the eighth house and Scorpio, we often encounter unknowns we cannot control but need to learn to relate to. From that experience, deep recognitions accrue, and as you step into the ninth house, these recognitions gel into a philosophical framework that allows you to make sense of them. As a result, you expand and recognize yourself as part of a vast pattern.

The ninth-house life arena provides experiences that encourage universal perspective—the counterpart to third-house experiences, which engender personal perspective. The ninth house is often affiliated with communications that can travel anywhere, circling the globe—newspapers, magazines, films, television. It represents any professional activity—such as the law, politics, theology, or the evening news—that claims to speak for what is ultimately true.

Of course thousands of philosophies and paths lead to what is ultimately true. Teilhard de Chardin coined the phrase Omega Point to describe the intersection of all paths of consciousness. He believed that all paths are part of the same unifying field. The ninth house is very much about that unity.

Rather than being about an intellectual truth, the ninth house describes living wisdom that is always active on every level, not just by climbing the mountain for the overview. The ninth house ultimately asks you to explore the truth that is so big it is written on our inner parts. It asks you to integrate those truths, to act upon your knowledge until it deepens and becomes wisdom. Yet wisdom has no shelf life. You must live it, internalizing this wisdom so deeply it encodes your very character. And then ask for more.

The ninth-house truths are infinite, offering endless wisdom, ancient wisdom, and new paths of wisdom that carry new patterns of brilliance as they recombine. There’s always more to learn here. Blue Sky Mind personifies Jupiter and Sagittarius inspires it, so they rule the ninth house, which provides the life arena in which this expansion can occur.

Those with Jupiter in the ninth house are particularly good at bypassing dogmatic stands and remaining receptive to Blue Sky Mind—and then shaping a specific ninth-house life arena, like news media, through the ideas of Jupiter. Marty Rosenbluth is a good example. With Jupiter in Scorpio, he read the newspapers (ninth house) every day from the age of six, to get every detail (Scorpio) of what was going on in world politics (ninth house).

In addition he has Sun in the ninth house in Scorpio very close to the midheaven, maximizing his visibility as a philosopher of considerable power. With Venus conjunct his Sun, he clearly carries a healing message. As a consequence, his insightful film on Palestine and Israel was screened at the United Nations, the only organized intersection of all nations.
